Adding text to your digital design
Text and the magic of pixel fonts
Here you can find all the tips to get the best possible result for your design.
Tip
When using pixel fonts, always use them in a horizontal or vertical direction, not diagonally, as they will become unreadable. We advise against using other fonts, as they quickly become unreadable on knitted products.
You can also add handwritten text to your digital template. Preferably use handwritten text for larger texts, for a more artistic look. Make sure your writing lines are at least 2px thick and your handwritten text is at least 30px high. This way the text is readable on your knitted product. Readability also depends on how clear your handwriting is.
Create your design with Text in Adobe Photoshop
For a digital design with pixel fonts, we recommend Adobe Photoshop, ideal for pixel drawings. A similar drawing app can also be used.
Dealing with Shrinkage: Don't Scale the Text
An important step when creating your digital design is to adjust the design to the shrinkage of knits during production. You can find out how to make this adjustment in the instructions in the digital template packages.
We never scale the text because in many cases the letters scale unevenly, and the text can become unreadable. You can expect the proportions of your final design with text to be about 10% shorter in length, but the text will remain well-proportioned and readable.
The following instructions refer to the Adobe Photoshop templates in our digital template packages:
If you want to add a few parts with text to your illustration:
- Don't scale the fonts with the rest of your design. First scale the entire illustration from the Bleed Line to the top of the canvas and turn off the Bleed Line layer. Then add the text as the last step.
If your design mainly consists of fonts:
- First, open the Photoshop template for your selected product. Turn off the Bleed Line layer and fill the entire canvas with text.
